Tyrannosaurus rex, or T Rex is one of the best known theropods, and perhaps the most famous dinosaur of all. It lived throughout what is now North America in the Maastrichtian (end of the Cretaceous).
Tyrannosaurus rex, undoubtedly the largest carnivore in its ecosystem, probably held the position of an apex predator. Its diet likely included hadrosaurs, young armored herbivores such as ceratopsians and ankylosaurs, and maybe even sauropods. Nevertheless, there has been an enduring debate among experts regarding whether Tyrannosaurus was primarily a scavenger.
The question of whether Tyrannosaurus was an apex predator or solely a scavenger has been one of the most extended debates in paleontology. Nowadays, the prevailing consensus among most paleontologists is that Tyrannosaurus rex played a dual role as both an active predator and a scavenger. This means it likely hunted for live prey but also scavenged the remains of deceased animals when the opportunity arose.
