Himalayasaurus was a large marine reptile that lived during the Late Triassic period, over 200 million years ago. Known from fossils discovered in the Himalayan region of Tibet, it belonged to a group of powerful ocean predators called ichthyosaurs - reptiles that evolved streamlined, fish-like bodies adapted for life in open water.
This plush model reflects the general body form typical of large ichthyosaurs, with a long, tapered snout, strong tail, and paddle-like flippers used for steering and propulsion. Fossil material suggests that Himalayasaurus was among the larger members of its group, equipped with robust teeth suited to tackling relatively large prey.
Himalayasaurus likely fed on sizeable marine animals, including fish and cephalopods. Its teeth were more heavily built than those of many other ichthyosaurs, suggesting it may have been capable of capturing and processing tougher prey.
Ichthyosaurs were highly specialised marine reptiles that resembled modern dolphins in body shape, though they were not closely related. Their streamlined form and powerful tails allowed them to swim efficiently across vast stretches of prehistoric ocean.
