Dilophosaurus, a formidable carnivorous dinosaur from the Early Jurassic Period, earned its name from the two slender bone crests adorning its head. These crests likely served as a display feature, possibly used during courtship rituals. The frill is speculatory.
As a more primitive predatory dinosaur, Dilophosaurus lacked forward-facing eyes, which means it didn't possess stereo vision. Instead, it likely relied on scent as a crucial part of its hunting strategy. With its long and slender teeth curving towards the back, housed within its elongated jaws, and equipped with robust front arms, Dilophosaurus was well-equipped for seizing prey. It exhibited impressive speed, possibly reaching top speeds of around 30 mph.
Interestingly, footprints linked to Dilophosaurus have been found in groups, suggesting that it may have hunted in small packs.
